Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the attack made him without words and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in 2020.
